ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

Peabody Energy Corp. and ConocoPhillips say they have chosen a site in western Kentucky for a plant that would convert coal into gas that could be used to heat homes or power a factory.

The energy companies submitted an air permit with the Kentucky Department of Environmental Quality for the project near Central City, Ky., about an hour northwest of Bowling Green. The site is near where St. Louis-based Peabody planned to construct a coal-fired power plant.
The coal-to-gas plant, which was originally announced a year ago, would produce enough energy for about 750,000 homes and create 1,200 construction jobs and 500 permanent jobs, the companies said in a joint statement. It would be built next to a Peabody mine and use ConocoPhillips’ technology to convert the coal to pipeline quality gas emergency payday loan.

The plant, named Kentucky NewGas, would be "carbon storage ready," according to the statement.
